Rottweiler History

The Rottweiler breed has beed around for many centuries. Rottweilers can be found in engravings from the middle ages. There is a debate over the geneology of the Rottweiler. Some say that the Rottweiler is a descendant of the Bavarian Bouvier, while others claim he was brought to Germany by Caesars legions and is a direct descendant of the Italian Mastiff.

Rottweiler Description

The Rottweiler is an exceptionally intelligent dog with an instinct for guard work, as well as for herding. Despite its ability to be agresive when necessary, the breed has a calm, docile disposition; is afectionate toward his owner and is very trainable.

Rottweilers are used both for tracking and as an attack dogs. They are fequently used by the police for their imtimidating presence as well as their ability to attack on command. Additionally, Rottweilers have a keen sense of smell, giving them the ability to track animals, or people for miles.

The Rottweiler has a heavy, powerful body. The height of the male is usually 23 and 27 inches, with females being between 21 and 25 inches. The Rottweiler's coat is short, black and red with yellow markings. The ears are pendent, and the tail is docked. The Rottweiler makes a devoted family dog, but it has a lot of energy, and needs to have adequate space for exercise.
