Whippet History
The Whippet is the product of an English Greyhound that has been bred with a terrier and a Small Italian Greyhound. The Whippet is smaller
than the English Greyhound. but has kept many of its characteristics.
Whippet Description
The Whippet is by nature, a
hunter of wild rabbit. Coincidently, they like to chase mechanical rabbits too, as the Whippet is an extremely fast racing dog.
The Whippet is a dazzling animal who easily reaches speeds of forty miles per hour. Over
distances of one hundred eighty meters he is the fastest dog in the world, so one can imagine the
success he enjoys at the track.
Affectionate, docile, and joyous, Whippets make fine companion dogs. The Whippet adapts well to apartment life,
but need to run often in the open country. The Whippet is a clean dog, his coat is short and free from orders and is easy
to look after. He is a good watchdog too, but will usually only defend the house by barking, not attacking.
Whippets are hearty dogs, but, given their short coats and sleek bodies, need to be protected against the cold when taken out during the winter months.
The Whippet has a gracious and distinguished appearance and great muscular power. They are usually between 19 and 22 inches in height. Whippets have a short coat; typically black, fawn, chamois, red, or any of these colors mixed with with white.
